Richard Tyler

Silk organza, brushed cotton and quilted leather
were just a few of the fabrications presented in the spring 04
collection of Tyler by Richard Tyler. All the press, stress and
general chaos were more than matched by the creative juices.
The evening began with the lights up and Outkast’s
‘Hey Ya’ echoing through the room. Celebrities were lining the runways
and the TV crews couldn’t get enough.
I was sitting next to RTW and couture
designer Joseph Domingo, and we were discussing the buzz in the
air. The buzz set the tone for this youthful line, of hip LA-cruising
20-somethings and their pocket-books.
A denim zip-front jacket with silk chiffon polka-dot
gathered bust top and denim hot short were sophisticated and flirty,
with a retro quality to the design. A tailored display of chevron
print suede paired with a denim double-faced print pant added a
touch of class to the age group. For the men, Tyler stuck to basics
with a twist, perforated leather zipper front pin tuck jacket, and
jeans had a comfortable but very "metrosexual" look for
today’s constructed times.
Richard Tyler Couture
Richard Tyler Couture was an extravagant and beautiful
display of endless hours of time and patience. Tyler Couture marvelled
in the art, and showed the diversity and lengths that Richard Tyler
could reach. Chiffon was the fabric of the night: everything from
asymmetrical tops to strapless panel dresses was made in chiffon.
A silk organza trench dress was romantic and sweet,
while a silk organza portrait collar suit was the epitome of the
cocktail party.
