Catherine Rigod speaks with Galina, the designer of the clothing line Single, about the hopeful beginnings for her collection, now truly in bloom after Los Angeles Fashion Week

  SEXY, YOUNG look that is fun and full of life,’ designer Galina says, is the object of fashion line Single. Single, which showed at Los Angeles Fashion Week recently, is the epitome of the modern, urban hipster itching to go out for a night on the town. Through the use of soft stretchy fabrics and daring cuts, Galina's line encompasses what it means to be ‘Single’ in 2004 Los Angeles.
   Galina’s story began in Russia and the Ukraine, when she watched her grandmother create in her atelier at an early age and found herself intrigued. From Russia, she took her interests to New York,

where she attended FIT, and then on to Central St Martin’s in London, where she studied design.
   After working as a fit model in New York for the likes of Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors, Galina decided it was time to move out on her own, and began a company in 1995 called Gala, an innovative label using high-end silks and unique cuts and shapes.
   Following the success of Gala, Galina and her husband decided that LA was ready for the new Single idea.
   Single is a new and energetic line that may best be described as having a touch of class with a touch of sass. Very hip and urban-focused on the 20-something jetsetters, but not exclusively catering to them, Single brings San Tropez to the Los Angeles freeway system.
