Eva Mendes shows cheeky PETA campaignEva Mendes shows cheeky PETA campaign

Our friends at PETA have revealed a cheeky new campaign with Eva Mendes, who joins other celebrities in opposing fur

SOMEHOW, whenever PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) releases a ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur’ campaign, it seems to look fresh. Maybe it’s because the celebrity is someone in the public consciousness now, rather than a star from the past. And the latest star—going further and showing her bottom—is Eva Mendes, of Ghost Rider and Hitch.

Mendes says her interest in opposing the fur trade and cruelty to animals was sparked by her dog, which she recently got, according to the PETA blog. Earlier in her career, she had worn a fur wrap to a première in New York, and admits that her choice of dress was pointed out by the organization.

She feels that pop culture has led to a rise in fur’s popularity and wishes to take a stand against it. ‘Some people still see wearing fur as glamorous and a sign of prosperity. Personally I think wearing a baby chinchilla says, “I’m ignorant,” versus saying, “I’m a badass.”

‘I don’t think you can force people to change their attitudes, but you can help to educate them and to lead by example. … There are way too many amazing faux fur options out there for people to still be wearing real fur. I want people to know that there are options; that killing a poor animal and wearing it isn’t cool.’

Mendes’s campaign breaks for winter 2007–8. She joins celebrities such as Joanna Krupa, Alicia Silverstone and Pamela Anderson l in appearing naked for PETA against fur. •
