A COLD, WET NIGHT didn’t stop invited guests, dressed stylishly in World attire, from attending an evening at the beautiful Mt Victoria, Wellington restaurant, the Ambeli.

Hosted by Francis Hooper and Denise l’Éstrange-Corbet, along with the Ambeli’s Shaebodine Moleta, was a unique way to showcase World’s new winter collection, Trans-Europe Express, whilst sampling a delicious selection of food and wines.

Guests were welcomed by Wellington’s World store manager, Elisavet George (Mrs Shaebodine Moleta), whose brilliant ability for multi-tasking also sees her as co-owner of the restaurant.

All the stops were pulled out for the occasion: from elegant name-place cards that detailed the flights of food to matching wines for the evening.

L’Éstrange-Corbet referred to invitees as ‘being part of the World family’ with an enthusiasm and candidness that in itself would have made us all rush to World immediately to buy more clothes!

A showcase of World’s winter collection featured, as a much-anticipated highlight of the evening. Presented in two parts, it provided a nice break from the rich, delectable morsels of warmed olives, assortments of grissini, Jerusalem artichoke soup, Spanish meatball and almond sauce delights with more to come!

My favourite menswear piece—this season’s knitted hoodie (in charcoal, chocolate and black), with chest panel and hood, in a contrasting fabric—a stylish, funky addition to any man’s wardrobe this winter. As for the womenswear, the black-and-white panel blazer with matching white high-waisted trousers for those with the height to make impact. Not to forget an absolute favourite: red, long-sleeved, mini-dress with black ribboned neckline.

Accessories were big this year: brightly coloured pins attached to smart suit jackets were a stand out on the men, along with bi-coloured World scarves which gave impact to ready-to-wear, smart, street attire and suits.

In womenswear, making an impact and waking up some of the darker winter hues in this season’s World colour palette: bright ruffled neck pieces, fur cape-lets and bows, added glamour and an unexpected twist. Vibrant hot pinks, along with splashes of greens and blues added depth and interest to slightly more classic winter wardrobe staples.

A 50-something gentleman, and true fan of the World brand (who, acquiring great confidence from the wine tasting throughout the night) declared, ‘I even encourage my children to buy World, not that Glasson’s crap!’ His intentions, he pointed out, was so his children could appreciate the importance of being unique.
