THOMAZ, the Milano-based photographer, was recently commissioned to shoot for Patricia Klein, a well known Ecuadorian fashion designer, who had shown in Miami. While in Guayaquil, which touts itself as a fashion capital in Latin America, he also shot the work of famous South American designers during August’s Portafolio de la Moda Ecuador, including María Luisa Ortiz of Colombia, Jose Miguel Valdivia of Peru and Guellelimo of Guatemala. Lucire presents some of these images for those interested in the continent’s designs.

Ortiz is known for her gowns and couture, Valdivia for his ornate use of colour. This season, however, both have played it somewhat more safely.

Lectures were also held during the event, examining, inter alia, the internationalization of Latin American fashion. There were also two young talent group shows.

The Ecuadorian portafolio ran from August 19 to 22, and was organized by the Sociedad de Autores de Diseño y Creadores de Moda del Ecuador (SADYCME). •
