Lucire: Beauty
hair

Byu-ti Healing hands Natasha Sunshine-Antonioni is known on both US coasts, and by models and celebs including Eva Herzigova and Ivanka Trump, for her approach to hair therapy.

You Byu-ti

Elyse Glickman heads to Santa Monica salon Byu-Ti, where a more natural and thorough approach to hair therapy takes place

GIVEN THAT Natasha Sunshine-Antonioni’s hands have revved up the locks of Ivanka Trump, Molly Sims and Eva Herzigova, and her résumé includes the New York City branch of Warren Tricomi, you would expect a salon big on space and attitude. However, her Santa Monica salon Byu-Ti goes in an opposite direction: unpretentious, intimate and adorable. Sandwiched daintily between a cupcake bakery and a manicure salon, the veteran hairdresser and Mom-to-be is bigger on results and client comfort than she is on hype and pretense. Sure, she has some high-profile salon lines such as Pure Color and Redken, as well as her own hand-crafted line of hair products and vitamins, but she clearly considers quality cut and colour to be her most important products.

While the signature service is the Healing Haircut and store tag line is ‘Give Goodness’, to stress the wholesome and natural ingredients in her products, this is no a hippie-dippie hangout. What takes its place is a customized hair salon experience based on a six-step consulting process to ensure the customer can maintain the look she walks out of the salon with. Another fun adjunct is her assortment of six Beauty Blenders that transform a good condition treatment into a highly customized sensory experience.

‘The premise of the Beauty Blenders is similar to a smoothies bar,’ Sunshine-Antonioni explains. ‘We start with a wonderful base conditioner, and then add up to two boosters—Shine, Thickener, Oil Reduction, Protein Rebuilder, Smoothing (for ethnic and extremely curly hair) and a remedy for over-processed hair. Healing haircut includes this special one-of-a-kind mélange along with a Japanese Micromist steamer. This makes the conditioner molecules so small the benefits infuse right into your hair's cuticle and cortex.’
