Looking summery Terry Seymour and Vogue Eyewear’s new ambassador, Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes’s great ex-spec-tations

Spring has sprung in Los Angeles, and along with it, a new collection of eyewear intended to put fashionistas into a sunnier frame of mind, reports Elyse Glickman

The coming-out party for Eva Mendes’ Vogue Eyewear brand ambassadorship at the Simon House in West Hollywood was memorable for its adorable, if somewhat obvious, decorative motifs. Big jars of Easter-coloured candy adorned indoor and outdoor drink stations—we get it, ‘eye candy’. ’Fifties- and ’sixties-inspired prescription and sunglass frames were artfully mounted on Astroturf, mimicking flowers you just wanted to pick, gather and experience. Heirloom Catering passed out traditional “garden party” hors d’œuvres, albeit with 21st-century twists. Svedka Vodka, meanwhile, skipped spring and went for summer flavour with sweet and tangy pool drinks.

In one room, set up to replicate Eva’s walk-in closet, guests could try on prescription styles and be sketched in their favourite frame by New York fashion illustrator Brooke Hagel. In the next room, people could have tiny masterpieces crafted on their fingernails. Party favours? Vogue had that covered too, with gift bags that could give guests a head start either on their next prescription pair or summer sunnies. Soundtrack? Mellow jams spun by special guest DJ Hannah Bronfman.

While legendary photographer Mario Testino captured all of Eva’s best looks for the California-centric fantasy ad campaign, the reality was that most of the universally flattering frames, even the ones in yummy candy colours, looked great on everybody. Eva will be seen next in The Place Beyond the Pines, with Ryan Gosling. Chances are, meanwhile, the guests will be Vogue-ing around Los Angeles this summer in their snappy frames. •
