Backstage with Karen Walker and her beauty team was lead make-up artist Romy Soleimani, collaborating with the designer on the look for her spring collection. I got a chance to catch her at the right moment in the midst of organized chaos. It’s not an easy job to chat and keep the focus on getting all the models looking fab! Catching Romi for just a moment between models, she comments, ‘I wanted to keep the look fresh, with a new with a modern take on the classic look.’ She mentions that giving the skin a clean appearance using a sheer foundation (not shinny but matt), Romy avoided using blush or contour on the cheeks to keep the clean classic look. ‘For the colours of the lips, I was inspired by Karen’s colour[s] of soft pastels in peaches and rose—no gloss, just a shimmer.
‘This look with beautiful patterns and styles in Karen Walker’s spring line mixed perfectly for a modern style,’ she says.
The original classic look is flawless pale skin, black eyeliner with red lips. For Karen’s spring line, it’s all about sheer soft skin, brown eyeliner on top, light on the mascara and pretty peach and rose lips—no gloss. Definitely a modern twist forward to a fresh spring look—the best I’ve seen yet!—Kristina Foreman
