Connected to the next print issue of Lucire: it was sad to note that the earlier suspicions that Tatler contributing editor Isabella Blow had drunk Paraquat, the weed killer, have now been confirmed by the Gloucestershire coroner.
Mrs Blow had drunk half a pint, 10 times the fatal amount, and had concerns over her ‘waning celebrity status’, something that those who know her had hinted at when we researched our story.
Her psychiatrist, Dr Ian Pannell, had spoken with her prior to her suicide. He told the coroner’s court, ‘She had a perception of a waning career with attendant uncertainties about how she would support herself.’
Mrs Blow’s successful suicide attempt was one of many during her lifetime, and followed the method used by her father-in-law. Her grandfather, Sir Jock Delves Broughton, had also committed suicide after being acquitted of the ‘White Mischief’ murder.
