Academy Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, in her capacity as Avon Global Ambassador and honorary chairman of the Avon Foundation, visited Japan and was the guest of honour at a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, where she met breast cancer survivors.
The Foundation is focused on breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief. As part of Witherspoon’s programme, she also highlighted the plight of and lack of support for women in Asia suffering from breast cancer.
Avon says that there is a lack of screening facilities in Asia and greater stigma for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
In Kochuan, Tokyo, she attended an intimate tea ceremony dressed in a kimono made by a designer from the same family that has dressed the Japanese Imperial Family for weddings since 1952.
The ceremony acted as a forum to discuss breast cancer issues.

  1. Reese Witherspoon is just promoting Avon - they paid her a fortune for this.

  2. That is true, Em, but Avon has been a lot more sincere about promoting breast cancer issues than many other corporations.

  3. of course Avon gets marketing value from this… but there are other (cheaper) ways to get one’s name out… they may be corporate but it is still good that they are helping with a very important cause.
