Cate by Kelly ThompsonThe only New Zealander to have photographed more than one Lucire cover, Kelly Thompson, opened her new illustration exhibition at the new Pixel Ink Gallery in Wellington tonight.
Kelly’s illustrations have mixed realism, innocence and female sexuality. Her latest exhibition, Recent Works, differs from her earlier work by avoiding block colours.
Glen Cooper, the managing director of Pixel Ink Gallery, was delighted to have Thompson as its first exhibition, and sees its Newtown location as part of the continuing gentrification of the neighbourhood. The Gallery is located next to the iconic People’s Café.
Gallery director Rosalind Clark also has some of her work at the gallery, featuring her own illustrations on apparel bearing the Nouveau and Deco brand names (for women and men respectively).
Pixel Ink’s mission is to showcase contemporary illustrative art.
