Mata, meaning rawness, freshness, edge.
New Zealand-made beer Mata is hand-crafted in a boutique brewery in the eastern Bay of Plenty where some favourite kiwi flavours are combined, including Feijoa, Artesian, and Manuka. (The manuka-styled beer won a gold medal and was a class winner in the 2007 New Zealand International Beer Awards).
Mata beer is brewed using certified organic artesian water with no preservatives, additives, finings, animal products or added sugars. Mata Manuka and Artesian are the first and the only Vegetarian Society-approved beers in New Zealand.
You could say this beer could have been designed especially for me, as two of my most favourite things in the world are feijoas and manuka honey. Last night at the Juniper Mata beer launch in Wellington I was eager to try both the Manuka and the Feijoa. I can say that I was rather impressed by the manuka flavour—smooth, refreshing with the manuka notes giving it a touch of sweetness.
