Carrie PrejeanCarrie Prejean, the former Miss California who was stripped of her title, is suing K2 Productions, the franchise owner of Miss California USA, according to court documents filed in the California Superior Court in Los Angeles on Monday.
K2’s Keith Lewis, the pageant’s executive director, and Shanna Moakler, a former Miss USA, are named in the suit.
Prejean was fired in June over contractual issues, said the pageant, citing missed public appearances, among other things.
However, Prejean’s lawyer has argued that she was sacked over her opinion that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
Her opinion, stated live at the Miss USA pageant on April 19, was very controversial, particularly with judge Mario Lavandeira, who writes under the pseudonym Perez Hilton.
