In France, where beauty pageants still command big television audiences and capture the public’s imagination, Malika Menard, Miss Normandie, has been crowned Miss France 2010 in Nice tonight.
Menard, 22, is a third-year law student, and is 5 ft 9 in (176 cm) tall. She cites her interests as cinema, travel and reading.
Miss Rhône Alpes, Virginie Dechenaud, 23, studying her master’s degree in marketing, was runner-up.
The competition includes contestants from overseas French territories, making it international. Thirty-seven contestants vied for the crown.
