Rosario Dawson has brought together fellow celebs Eva Longoria-Parker, Jessica Alba, Wilmer Valderrama and musician Common to stand against Arizona’s immigration law in a PSA for Voto Latino and Telemundo’s Mun 2.
‘I haven’t made it a secret that I’m strongly opposed to the Arizona law and I’ve been pretty vocal about it,’ Longoria-Parker told Us magazine.
Longoria-Parker is arguably the highest-profile celebrity to speak out against the state’s immigration laws.
Longoria-Parker says that she is ninth-generation American, but that there is a misconception that someone of a darker skin colour is ‘from somewhere else.’
Critics of the immigration law is says it encourages racial profiling. One section permits officers to inquire in to a person’s immigration status if they have grounds to investigate a crime. The law, signed into effect in January 23, also makes being an illegal immigrant a state crime.
Voto Latino, which encourages participation from Americans of Latin origin in politics, was co-founded by Dawson.
