On last Monday’s Dragons’ Den on BBC Two, retail guru Theo Paphitis invested £65,000 in exchange for 25 per cent of fashion footwear company, the WedgeWelly Family.
The company sells what it calls ‘practical yet fashionable wellies for women,’ made with fashion and comfort in mind. The wellingtons have a patented 2½-inch wedge heel, which the company claims gives them design rights to the feature in wellington-style boots.
The flagship WedgeWelly boot comes in two styles: WedgeWelly Unique (the standard fit boot) and WedgeWelly Curve (with a wider fitting).
Sarah Longthorn, WedgeWelly’s Managing Director and one of the three founders, says in a release, ‘We were overwhelmed with the response we received from the Dragons and we are delighted to receive Theo’s offer. He was always our first choice of investor due to his comprehensive expertise in the retail arena and we consider it an honour to have him on board.’
