Ralph Lauren, Luxe Boutique open online stores in UK

News

October 14, 2010/12.27

This was the sort of news item that would come in via the press release wires and be easily missed: ‘Polo Ralph Lauren will further extend its e-commerce reach with the launch of Ralphlauren.com in the United Kingdom this October.’
It’s taken 10 years for the ecommerce site to cross the Pond, with the core lines represented online first. There is a Style Guide, which is said to feature an online RL Magazine (we can’t find it on our first visit), and RL TV with celebrity interviews (which we can find).
We thought it was more interesting that a boutique selling new and second-hand luxury-branded items went online in the UK. Luxe Boutique fills a niche that we have seen offline retailers do well, but not many online ones.
Again it’s a concept that has been around but not that well done in the UK. Our very first issue in 1997 discussed Piece Unique, a US-based website which did, at least on a low-volume level, what stylist and entrepreneur Laura Ferrall-Peevey is attempting to do with Luxe Boutique.
The stock is quite comprehensive, the brands do live up to Luxe Boutique’s claims, and Lucire readers can get a 10 per cent discount on purchases using the code FIRST at the checkout. Luxe Boutique is at www.luxeboutiqueonline.com.
