Pin Up for Prems is a charity calendar with a difference.
Born out of a desire to help the Neonatal Special Care Unit of Hutt Hospital, which specializes in caring for newborn babies and helping parents during and after births, mother and businesswoman Georgia Wright and renowned Wellington photographer Mandi Lynn came up with a vision to produce the calendar.
Inspired by the classic pin-ups of the ’40s, Pin Up for Prems reinterprets them with over-the-top avant-garde fashion, hair and make-up.
A team of over 60 volunteers and some of Wellington, New Zealand’s most creative people, such as Derek Elvy from Buoy, Cathy Davys Hair Salon, Hil Cook Make-up, Body FX, and costume and fashion designers, 14 classic American cars, and a bevy of beautiful models from Miss Universe New Zealand 2008 Samantha Powell to cabaret darling Eva Strangelove, have come together to create a masterpiece.
Only 1,000 of the calendars were originally available. In the midst of creating this work, Christchurch was affected by its February 22 earthquake; therefore, a further 1,000 have been printed with 100 per cent of all funds being donated to both the original charity and one relating to the ’quake.
Calendars are available for pre-ordering from pinup4prems.blogspot.com/p/pre-order-your-calendar_09.html.—Sopheak Seng, Fashion Editor
