Alexandra Owen is a great connoisseur of all things quirky and unique, and constantly has an eye for the beautiful and new.
Her latest find and a perfect fit for her Wellington store is the hauntingly beautiful jewellery of Wellington-based artist Alexandra Dodds.
Dodds’s work calls upon her fine arts’ background, which helps moulds and inspires her collection of precious metal jewellery. This also leads to wonderful experimentation in her work as well, using and exploring casting methods and oxidization processes.
Using found objects and the casting process, she turns tourmaline, bronze and silver into delicate rings and necklaces. Each piece is truly a work of art, but en masse, as Dodd likes to wear them herself.
Last Thursday night was an opportunity to explore this exciting and new work by Dodds in the beautiful surroundings of Owen’s Wellington boutique, and it was not a disappointment at all. Each piece will definitely be a collector’s item, with the option of a commission being specially created for you if none of the rings fit your fancy. It is this process of harking back to a rarefied jewellery-making process that makes this label a must-have.—Sopheak Seng, Fashion Editor
