Clarity, a charity selling toiletries and beauty products made by blind and disabled staff, has received a celebrity endorsement today—from New Avengers and Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley.
Clarity employs 75 staff in London and at telemarketing centres across the UK. It offers
Lumley has made a video to promote Clarity, currently visible at its website, www.claritymatters.org, and embedded below.
‘Many of our staff have struggled to find jobs in the open job market,’ says Jeremy Robinson, Clarity’s CEO. ‘Before starting here at Clarity, many were left at home living on benefits and struggling from the affects of social exclusion. Some of our staff stay with us for years, others stay with us long enough to gain skills and confidence before moving on.’
Clarity believes its range is ideal for Christmas presents, particularly its gift packs.
Meanwhile, Stoneleigh’s newest wine has struck gold at the 31st Sydney International Wine Competition. The Stoneleigh Latitude Sauvignon Blanc 2011 was awarded Blue-Gold status in the very prestigious 2012 competition. This competition divides the wines into classes based on palate weight and they are assessed alongside appropriate food. The winning sauvignon blanc has been described to have ‘aromas of citrus blossom and fresh pineapple, which lead into a rich tropical palate with honeydew melon, pineapple, grapefruit zest and a flinty minerality that lingers.’ Stoneleigh Latitude wines are available from grocery, retail and on-premise outlets at NZ$26·99.
Finally, ASOS, which has been getting attention more regularly of late, has announced a free-selling facility in its ASOS Marketplace section.
The online fashion retailer has a free listing facility for November, allowing customers to sell their older purchases to a fashion-savvy audience.
‘We have some amazing boutique businesses from over 20 countries on the site; however, we also have a thriving community of individuals taking advantage of free listings to sell their unwanted wardrobe items to our one million monthly Marketplace visitors,’ says ecommerce director James Hart.
‘Over 10,000 of our listings are from these sellers, many of whom have already made thousands of pounds, some of whom turned out to be budding entrepreneurs and have graduated to become successful boutiques; I feel it’s time to shout about this route into selling on our platform.’—Ella Garland-Levett and Lucire staff
