Top Mondegreen showed its beautiful florals for autumn–winter 2012 at Pearl in Wellington earlier tonight. Above Jetsetbohemian launched itself into the capital earlier in the season.

As Wellington gears itself up for its inaugural fashion week, the city has been abuzz over the past couple of weeks with fashion events galore. With new shops opening, designers and retailers alike preparing for the onslaught of fashionable people and winter collections now in full swing, it only seems fitting that fashion events have popped up like a well placed stud on a leather jacket.
Our two favourite events so far have been Mondegreen’s winter launch at Pearl and the official opening of the Jetsetbohemian store.
Mondegreen is one of those labels waiting to be discovered. Feminine, pretty and simply divine, this is a label for the lovers of the finer things in life. Having based itself entirely online, it was an interesting move to share space with one of Wellington’s premier retailers, Pearl, in Hunter Street earlier tonight, with a pop-up store open till April 24. But my, was it worth it.
The winter collection is beautifully constructed, allowing the wearer to wear it her own way. Winter florals abound in the collection, appearing on pants, dresses and shirts, but this is not your run-of-the-mill floral print. Each season, Mondegreen specially designs its own unique prints, which are crafted in the finest silks for the collections. Wool coats are sharply tailored while chunky knits that call to be worn over gossamer fine maxi-dresses come winter.
The collection can be bought online at www.mondegreen.co.nz.

Wellington’s newest addition to the fashion scene, Jetsetbohemian, officially opened its doors to its fashionistas with a launch party in the old ’Swonderful boutique on Victoria Street, joining other fashion luminaries such as World and Man to Man. Having already captured the Auckland fashion scene, the move to Wellington sees the store add more offerings into the mix for the capital’s truly bohemian look.
The store is a treasure-trove of goodies, like walking into a curio shop filled with vintage and one-off finds. Owner Kirsten Tweedie’s ethos is to fill it with personally hand-selected European niche labels that cannot be found anywhere else, and mix in a few high-street brands such as Zara, H&M, Topshop and French Connection. She loves to bring in little-known designers and show her customers how fashion doesn’t have to be influenced by branding. ‘It’s about being exciting and daring,’ she says.
Gorgeous jewellery from Zoë & Morgan, Tiger Frame and other costume jewellers add to the already ecletic mix that one can hunt for in this little gem.
The launch showcased a mini-capsule collection of pieces showcased by the store’s own staff. Hair and make-up provided by Wellington’s renowned make-up artist Olivia Wild finished off the looks, daring victory rolls, corn-rows and pretty punk the look of the evening.—Sopheak Seng, Fashion and Beauty Editor
