Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise in a New York court, and wants custody of their daughter, Suri, 6. ‘Irreconcilable differences’ were cited as the reason for divorce, according to TMZ.
   Both parties have issued statements, with Holmes’s lawyer Jonathan Wolfe saying, ‘This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.’ Cruise’s representative stated, ‘Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.’
   Cruise is in Iceland filming Oblivion presently.
   Their combined worth is estimated to be $275 million. It had been reported at the time of their marriage that there was a prenuptial agreement, though lawyers are remaining mum on its existence.
   Holmes and Cruise married in Italy in November 2006 but have not been seen together publicly since February 2012.

Andrew Morton, who wrote an unofficial biography of Cruise, claims to have predicted the divorce in 2008, and lays some blame at Scientology, though ITN notes that there is no indication that religion played any part in the filing.
