New York Fashion Week spring–summer 2013, day four: a day of bright, electric colours

News

September 10, 2012/11.14

Lela Rose took her inspiration from artist Jim Hodges, known for his love of nature. Typically feminine and beautifully executed, Rose’s 38 looks made good use of florals, embroidery, lace, and organza. Among the celebrities present were Lauren Conrad and Mandy Moore.
We had covered Tracy Reese since she first showed at New York Fashion Week. But she’s riding a high these days, being one of the favoured labels of the US First Lady, Michelle Obama, who recently wore one of her designs at the Democratic National Convention.
It’s given Reese’s potential customers a hook: they understand if they want a First Lady’s sense of style, then a Tracy Reese dress is the real thing.
It was Reese who delivered bright colours on day four, along with geometric prints, on smart suits, loose-fitting pants and shorts.
One of our favourites, Custo Barcelona, returned with more bright colours, including electric blues, fluorescent greens, and dainty pinks, as well as sequins, embroidery and fringe. It’s one of Custo Dalmau’s more daring collections when it comes to material use.
Another long-time Lucire favourite label, Diane von Fürstenberg, was also in a colourful mood for spring–summer 2013. Bright reds, electric blues and lime greens marked the season’s DVF woman, with long, flowing dresses, and collarless jackets, while platform heels and clutch bags were her accessories. In the front row were von Fürstenberg’s husband, Barry Diller, along with fellow designer Oscar de la Renta and actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
Lucire will continue to run the New York Fashion Week shows live as they happen via our live player here. Also, read and watch our day three coverage here.
