Eon Productions has confirmed that Sam Mendes will return to direct the official James Bond series’ 24th film, which will reunite the Oscar-winning director with star Daniel Craig.
Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson had fitted the film around Mendes’s theatre schedule, according to a release.
‘I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,’ says Mendes.
The new film will be released on October 23, 2015, three years after the release of the last outing, Skyfall.
Mendes and screenwriter John Logan had worked on the direction of the 24th film during Skyfall, but it had been expected that another director would be appointed.
With a marketing extravaganza, Skyfall had managed to become the highest-grossing James Bond film at US$1,100 million, even after adjustment for inflation. It overtook the previous record-holder, Thunderball, which was made in 1965, even before the Chinese market was added.
It also holds the record for the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK.
