It was unprecedented in New Zealand to see the 20 finalists in Miss Universe New Zealand 2013 being flown to Thailand for their retreat and swimwear shoot. However, one country—the one where beauty pageants remain in the public consciousness, and where the telecast gets a 40 per cent share—does this as a matter of course: the 33 finalists for Miss France 2014 will head to Sri Lanka this year before arriving in Dijon, France.
The time-frame is more compressed in the French competition. They will spend a week in Sri Lanka, where they will be met with a gala soirée in Colombo, before a two-week preparation in the capital of the Bourgogne region commencing on November 23. They will be received by mayor François Rebsamen.
A charity gala will be held at the Clos de Vougeot château on November 28. The final will be held on December 7 at the Zénith in Dijon, and the show will be broadcast live on TF1.
The reigning Miss France, Marine Lorphelin, hails from Saône-et-Loire. Lorphelin placed runner-up at Miss World 2013.
There has been no word on who will replace veteran actor Alain Delon, who quit as honorary president of the Miss France jury last month over criticisms by the competition over his support of the far-right National Front party.
