An extra-glam Blake Lively was there to support husband Ryan Reynolds on day three of the Festival de Cannes, as his film, The Captive, directed by Atom Egoyan, had its red-carpet première. Reviews were not positive for the film, dealing with child sex abuse, while Jessica Hausner’s Amour fou fared better among critics. How to Train Your Dragon 2, screening out of competition, also had its première on day three.
Egyptian celebrity Arwa, Heike Makatsch, Inès de la Fressange (in a striking red), Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė, and Rosario Dawson were among the other faces on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on day three. L’Oréal Paris notes that de la Fressange’s look once again used its Volume Million Lashes, in Excess Black, its Color Riche Le Kajal in brown, and a very red Color Riche lipstick.
On a Friday that saw the alcohol multinationals battle for attention, official Festival de Cannes sponsor Chivas Regal, a Pernod Ricard brand, hosted its Charles Finch Annual Filmmakers’ Dinner benefiting the FilmAid charity, with actor Edward Norton playing host, at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, in Cap d’Antibes. Guests included former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, Bond alumni Mads Mikkelsen and Gemma Arterton, Naomi Watts, Léa Seydoux, Harvey Weinstein, Gael Garcia Bernal, Bryan Ferry, Julian Schnabel, Gong Li, and Daniel Brühl (Rush). Alfonso Cuáron (the Oscar-winning director of Gravity) and Christopher Hampton, CBE (screenwriter of Dangerous Liaisons and Atonement) were honoured at the event. Previous recipients include Bernardo Bertolucci, Terry Gilliam, Bertrand Tavernier and Jeremy Thomas.
FilmAid goes to refugee camps and communities affected by disaster, its filmmakers using film to bring life-saving information on health and food safety, as well as hope.
Norton presented a cheque of $100,000 to Simon Goff of FilmAid at the event. He said, ‘It is a great pleasure to be here tonight at the Charles Finch Filmmakers’ Dinner, sponsored by Chivas Regal 25. To be able to present FilmAid with such a generous donation on behalf of Chivas Regal is a great honour. Philanthropy and activism are causes hugely important to me. Increasingly, we are seeing brands addressing social and environmental issues more than ever before.’
Goff stated, ‘At FilmAid we witness the power of film every day—to change lives, shape communities and give voice to refugees. We are very grateful to Chivas Regal for their ongoing support and commitment to our charity.’
Friday night saw Rita Ora perform at the Club Albane, overlooking la Croisette, for a party thrown by Belvedere Vodka, with guests including Jason Statham, Rosario Dawson, Neneh Cherry, Theophilus London, Hofit Golan, Victoria Bonya, and Sarah-Jane Crawford. The event, hosted by Belvedere Vodka president Charles Gibb, served up cocktails created by Claire Smith, the brand’s Head of Spirit and Creation. Both Ora and London were presented with the exclusive Belvedere Vodka Silver Sabre laser-cut edition.
Ora performed her hits as well as new tracks from her September 2014 album, I Will Never Let You Down, which features Prince and Gwen Stefani, and the skills of DJ Calvin Harris.
