fashion week has become a staple in northern Europe, with each season
reporting greater overseas interest.
Geared toward exports, Copenhagen Fashion
Weekthe English name is adopted for its external marketingis
in fact two events, viz. the trend show- and exhibition-based
Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF)
and the hip and trendy Copenhagen Vision (CPH
Vision).
Organizers carefully measure the number of foreign
attendants, many of whom venture from neighbouring Sweden, where
Danish design is familiar yet has the cachet of being imported.
Between the two events, more than 60 shows took
between February 5 and 8. Thirty-eight were at CIFF,
Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, at Bella Centre, where the
fashion-conscious HRH Princess Alexandra
visited the trend show and several exhibition stands where the fashions
for next winter were presented.
Princess Alexandra, a Hong Kong native, is easily
one of the most recognized and glamorous women in Denmark. With
the royal
wedding of her brother-in-law, Crown Prince Frederik, slated
for May, Copenhagen Fashion Week is merely Denmarks first
foray on to the international fashion stage this year.
