If anything typified the
idea of urban jungle, then this was it: khaki mixed with red rose
prints and exaggerated military camouflage
Pepe Arellano
Pepe Arellano’s show was known for the appearance of pregnant actress
Cate Blanchett and this somewhat overshadowed the designs. Arellano
mixed glamour with the practice of tagging as everything from bikini
tops to fur coats came out with light graffiti effects. If anything
typified the idea of urban jungle, then this was it. Khaki
mixed with red rose prints and exaggerated military camouflage were
at direct odds with the final wedding dress with its angular top
half and flowing tulle below.
Blanchett came out on the catwalk afterwards.
Word has it that Arellano wished her to model, but being seven months’
pregnant, Blanchett declined. Instead, she presented him with a
bouquet wearing, of course, one of Arellano’s more traditional,
well tailored designs. •
