Richard Nylon’s creations are influenced by natural space and form, then fuelled by the imagination

Gwendolynne’s trademarks include the repetition of motifs and asymmetrical lines in the fragility and femininity of each item. Nevertheless, each and every article of clothing was unique, from the black and terracotta wool coats, to the gold precious dresses she has created specifically for her autumn–winter 2004 collection.
In addition to this was the magical Richard Nylon, who provided the final touch. His mystical and alluring masterpieces complemented Gwendolynne’s range perfectly. The craftsmanship in these incredible headpieces was reminiscent of the outrageous fantasies manifested by Philip Treacy, and similarly, Richard Nylon’s works of art are sculpturally magnificent in every way.
His attention to detail follows in Gwendolynne Burkin’s footsteps. His creations are influenced by natural space and form, and then fuelled by the imagination. Simple yet effective materials such as beads, feathers and metals are used to create the visually powerful and dynamic designs, each of which he intimately partakes in every step of the manufacture process. Boldly glamorous jewellery, courtesy of Kozminsky Jewellers, was then incorporated to each model’s look, and in the end, the whole package harmonized with the melancholy mood of the show. This was emphasized by the models’ hair and make-up. The girls wore elegant 1920s’ hairstyles that worked in conjunction with Nylon’s headpieces, then endowed with Swarovski-crystal tears, which ran down their cheeks, the colours complementing those of the outfits.
In collaboration with such incredibly artistic and creative forces, Gwendolynne is no doubt propelling itself into the global fashion market. Gwendolynne Burkin’s clothing is for the feminine yet strong-minded woman, and her success will certainly be proven when she opens her first signature boutique in Fitzroy. It is due to open its doors early next year. •
