Raised in Tarzana, Calif. (‘unfortunately,’ according
to Katy), she wrote most of the songs on this album when she was
fourteen and recorded them two years later. Now, at the ripe old
age of 17 she is promoting her first major release.
While the songs are often about struggles living
in "fake" southern California and issues having to deal
with teenage life in general, Katy feels that it is a positive album.
‘I suppose there is a message of hope through all the madness of
the record. There’s always a glimmer of hope. I don’t completely
love myself and there are a ton of issues that I am dealing with
and there is a lot of confusion in the record, but I’ve grown in
leaps and bounds as a person and I still have a lot of room to grow.’
Katy Rose is not just a fabricated “project” with
Katy chosen as the front person. The record label doesn’t tell her
what to wear, which songs to sing or who to play with—‘I found my
band members all different ways. I had input on the band and the
songs and everything. I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t have input
on everything. I’m probably one of the most spontaneous and impulsive
people I know and I don’t really have a set process for writing
songs. I’m always writing and things are always inspiring me.’ Her
album will be released January 27 and she will be playing TRL
on MTV in January. She admits that
she is ‘not really thinking about [it] because it would give me
anxiety if I did. I just love the fact that they want me on there.’
Nice to see that in such a jaded world, there is still some excitement
and a great future to look forward to for this young talented artist.
