Other highlights include 2004 Academy-Award nominated Iranian actress Shoreh Aghdashloo (The House of Shadow and Fog) in Cynthia Rowley, tennis star Venus Williams in Luca Luca, Vanessa Williams in Kenneth Cole, author Candace Bushnell (Sex and the City, Four Blondes, Trading Up and her new novel due in September, Lipstick Jungle) in Oscar de la Renta, actress Mariel Hemingway in Richard Tyler, the First Lady’s niece, model and student Lauren Bush in Tommy Hilfiger, and Essence’s Beauty Director Mikki Taylor wearing Shannon Stokes.
As part of the Heart Truth’s February 2005 programming, President George W. Bush issued a proclamation declaring February American Heart Month and designated Friday, February 4—the day of the show—the second annual National Wear Red Day.
The list of Heart Truth campaign partners also include the Office on Women’s Health (www.4women.gov/owh), the American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org), WomenHeart: the National Coalition fro Women with Heart Disease (www.womenheart.org), the American College of Cardiology, Hadassah, Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, Sister to Sister: Everyone Has a Heart Foundation, Society of Women’s Health Research and the Links Foundation, Inc.
Because heart disease is also a leading cause of death among women in African–American and Hispanic communities, the Heart Truth used this opportunity to announce the formation of a new partnership to reach women in these communities. The partnership will include Essence magazine, the Association of Black Cardiologists, Catalina magazine, the National Black Nurses’ Association (NBNA), and the National Association of Latina Leaders (NALL).
The Red Dress 2005 Fashion Show was sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and made possible by the corporate sponsorship from the affiliated companies of Johnson & Johnson (www.jnj.com), Celestial Seasonings (www. celestialseasonings.com), and Swarovski (www.swarovski.com).
