Floating Carolina Herrera sculpts a woman rather than dresses her, says Lucire Paris editor Lola Saab

Unravelling the new

Vivienne Tam

The five Chinese cosmology elements (metal, wood, fire, earth and water) served as Vivienne Tam’s inspiration. The energies of the five elements created a marvellous idea for her ready-to-wear pieces. The colours screamed seduction, with bright red balanced with black and white, and some green along with blue, for detail and contrast. The ensembles ranged from dresses, pants to skirts that were paired with matching tops and even jackets.

All the looks were accompanied with jewellery from the first Vivienne Tam and TSL Fine Jewelry line. The metal and wood necklaces, earrings and rings corresponded to the shape of the clothing. The make-up was nude and almost invisible to the eye, with a dab of barely-there rosy blush to emphasize the cheeks.

Badgley Mischka

When it came to fabulous flair on the catwalk, Mark Badgley and James Mischka certainly fired it up. The two Parsons graduate students united not only to reach their own dream but to fulfil the dreams of modern and elegant women who sought freshness. Stylish celebrities such as Teri Hatcher and Catherine Zeta-Jones have been seen in Badgley Mischka pieces and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were featured as the brand’s spokeswomen in 2006. While the brand is known for sexy eveningwear, they also have a lingerie line as well as sportswear.

Badgley Mischka’s new collection is elegant, sophisticated and classically refined. Like the background mural, depicting a colourfully serene zen atmosphere with trees and nature, the looks were tranquil. While their fall 2012 collection was fierce with Goth-like aspects, their spring 2013 collection, introducing forty looks, portrayed a lightness with crisp gold and brusque silver, as well as radiant shades of nude, beige and cool violet. Fabrics were especially inspiring: organza, satin, chiffon and tulle are some of the few delicate materials forming savvy pieces with detailed elements. They are recognized for their gowns and delicate dresses but they added more to the mix with separates. Each look’s sensuality, revealed in the deep neckline, was transformed into vivaciously stunning pieces waiting to be worn.

Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera, who was also honoured with the Iconic Women of Style Award this year at the annual Vandidades Icons of Style event, seems to sculpt a woman rather than simply dress her. Organza, tulle, chiffon and georgette were used as soft and feminine materials that float across one’s body and elegantly embrace a woman’s figure. The spring 2013 collection was surrounded by a simple, divine ambiance with an all-white canvas underlining each piece’s fabulous details. While a constant flow of whites appeared, sparks of orange and black found their way on the runway. Billowing dresses with skinny, high-wasted belts were ravishing as flirtatious miniskirts were enticing. The front row was filled with a handful of A-listers including Bianca Jagger, Ivanka Trump and Julianne Hough.

Spanx
Undergarments provide women with the necessary lift, and sometimes tuck, to feel comfortable and sexy. Spanx, by Sara Blakely, presents wearers with a wide range of pantyhose, swimwear, bras, panties and bodysuit shape wear. No matter whether one’s size is petite or slightly more curvaceous, there is always a special “must-have” in store. Spanx, which introduced guests to its new spring 2013 collection at the Empire Hotel, is recognized for its soft materials that come in various colours and in different designs. Its budget-friendly line, called Assets, is a collection of lighter weight, and slightly more affordable products, with fabulous designs and patterns for women to look forward to. Shiny satin undergarments fall under Blakely’s ‘Haute Contour’ category.

The Spanx slimming swimwear enters its fourth season. A variety of looks include simple one-piece or even swim dresses coming in shades such as aquamarine, pink and purple, or the more classic black.

Spanx doesn’t forget the male population, providing them with comfortable undergarments and socks. For the yearningly svelte men, Spanx created a compression undershirt, also known as Manx, that comes in three different designs: the Tank, the V-neck and the Crew-neck. •
