Lady Gaga seems to be in the Zeitgeist this week. First, we receive word from Giorgio Armani that it has designed the singer’s outfit for American Idol. Not really a show we take in, and we noted the dramatic design from the Italian company: ‘Lady Gaga will wear a silk mesh bodysuit with embroidered Chantilly lace and crystal and jet beading. Over it, she will wear a silk organza cape with an embroidered hood and black patent stiletto boots.’
Shortly later, the Royal New Zealand Ballet sent news that a ballet based around Lady Gaga had become a YouTube hit.
Ballet dancer Jaered Glavin took part in an in-house workshop, where he created a dance piece.
A Lady Gaga fan, Glavin chose the track ‘Bad Romance’ (Starsmith Remix) and selected his ‘Gagaettes’—fellow RNZB dancers Katie Hurst-Saxton, Katherine Grange, Clytie Campbell, Lucy Balfour, Antonia Hewitt and Maree White—to help him make his dream come to fruition. Decked out in blonde wigs and skimpy outfits made of gaffer tape, the dancers embraced the chance to pull out classical dance moves to the unlikely score.
When Lucire spoke to RNZB’s Hilaire Carmody, she noted that even the official Lady Gaga site had included the piece.
Professionally, Glavin is to dance in his first soloist role as Escamillo in RNZB’s Meridian season of Carmen.
