Kellwood, the company which already owns Baby Phat, Phat Farm, Vince, and Adam has acquired Rebecca Taylor, the eponymous Manhattan-based label co-founded by an expat New Zealander and her business partner Elizabeth Bugdaycay.
Taylor came to prominence through the Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion show in the late 1990s, and successfully developed her label through the 2000s.
In a statement, Taylor said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for both our associates and our overall business. We look forward to leveraging Kellwood’s size, relationships and resources to continue to grow our business both domestically and internationally.’
The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the Rebecca Taylor brand’s volume is estimated to be $45 million. It is sold in 40 countries.
Kellwood is affiliated with Sun Capital Partners Inc.
The acquisition has fuelled discussion in the business community about a return to form for the fashion industry, which showed stronger fourth-quarter results in the US.
Recently, Kellwood acquired Adam from designer Adam Lippes, and it has signed Johan Lindeberg as creative director of its BLK DNM brand, set to launch in February.
