As an extra drawcard to 2011’s ID Dunedin Fashion Week, whose tickets go on sale on the 27th, pieces from the Darnell collection of vintage fashion (including labels such as Chanel and Christian Dior) will go on the catwalk on April 8 and 9.
Charlotte Smith (left), owner and curator of the largest private vintage clothing collection in Australia, will arrive in Dunedin as ID’s special guest. Fifteen items will grace the catwalk at the show.
Smith will give a guest lecture on the collection’s history while in Dunedin.
Smith had inherited the collection from her godmother, Doris Darnell, in 2004. The collection was then 3,000 pieces; today it is at 5,000. Her great-great-grandfather was Sir Edward Stafford, a former New Zealand prime minister.
Tickets to ID Dunedin Fashion Week will be available at Ticket Direct (including the Regent Theatre, Dunedin), on 0800 4-TICKET, or at www.ticketdirect.co.nz.
