Last July, we reported on the departure of New Zealand label Basquesse for Australia. The new Basquesse has opened at 92 Queen Street, Woollahra, NSW, still with Viviana Pannell at the helm, finding a new clientèle ready to discover the brand’s commitment to quality and its international style.
Basquesse started in New Zealand in 2001, and was HQed there till December 2010.
Its name is a deliberately misspelt form of Basquaise, a tribute to Pannell’s French Basque ancestry and a bit of humour in remembering her father telling her, ‘Before the Earth there was God, and before God there were the Basques.’
Though new to the Australian high street, the label has had Australian clients for some time, who ordered or shopped through its boutiques and retailers in New Zealand.
Other clients are based in some of the fashionable locations of the world: Roma, Paris, London, Stockholm, and Berlin. It also has a following in the UAE and the US.
