With already a sell-out first season under their belt, Danish label Noa Noa is introducing antipodeans to a second dose of Danish fashion with its spring–summer 2011 collection.
The first collection by newly appointed head designer Lea Dam Jensen sees a much more feminine, romantic and modern approach to the Noa Noa brand.
As always, the collection is designed around three main central themes. These are Relaxing, Sirens and Namaste for this season.
Relaxing recalls the idyllic life in the country cottage, a return to the simple pleasures of life. This is expressed through soft-washed fabrics such as cottons, denims, silks and cashmere. Small floral patterns dominate this section of the collection and soft, muted colours help to further enhance this. Knitted jerseys and silks in relaxed cuts such as the cotton jodhpurs and harem pants are a definite must. This season also sees the introduction of organic cotton used in the collection. Fabrics are also woven with metallic thread to give a relaxed, lived-in feel to the clothes while adding that element of luxe.
Sirens is inspired by the beautiful women depicted in Greek mythology who lured sailors with their exquisite beauty and soulful voices. Gossamer chiffons, tulle, muslin, and silks are your must-have new best friends in your wardrobe. Dresses still reign supreme and the silhouette sees a much tighter fit juxtaposed with soft and flowing. Harden up your silks with the Noa Noa leather pants or jackets made from soft-as-butter lambs’ leather and finished with scalloped edges and eyelet detailing. Sequin embroidery also features heavily to recall the shiny and alluring effect of the siren.
Namaste is the fusion between the old and new in ancient India. Metallic and ribbon embroidery add flourishes, while ikat weaving and ink prints recall old world techniques of the past. Silk and chiffon again see dominance and flowing tunics and dresses are what feature heavily in this section of the collection. A beautiful full-length maxi with metallic Hindi print is a wardrobe must-have that will see you from day to night.
Colours of the season of pool green, shark grey, seaweed, calypso red, cinnabar pink, Dijon yellow add pop to your wardrobe but are balanced with the classic summer whites, taupe and black.
Noa Noa also offers some amazing accessories this season. Scarves are a must and come in a multitude of prints, colours and textures. Long, beaded necklaces and chains also offer something unique with just a hint of ethnic bohemian—a trade mark of this brand.
The great thing about this label is that it is designed to be worn season after season and still look fashionable and effortlessly cool. Noa Noa can also be injected and mixed in with your existing wardrobe, which is great when you want to build a capsule collection of wearable, fashionable pieces.
Noa Noa is available nationwide through boutiques and all major department stores. For stockist information, email information@fashionmarketing.co.nz.—Sopheak Seng, Fashion Editor
