Looking for a special getaway? How about Thuwal Private Retreat, a private island in the Red Sea, the only one off the coast of Jeddah that can be rented as a full-service, exclusive-use property, just opened this month. Reservations are open now, and only one group is allowed on there at any one time.
Activities include crystal kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding, windsurfing, e-foiling, and diving and snorkelling at the Turquoise Hole natural swimming pool and house reef. Water sports’ instructors are on hand to ensure safety. Both experienced and beginner divers have plenty to see in the Red Sea, and beginners can enrol in a PADI-certified course.
Chefs are on hand to make whatever guests want, when and where they want it—whether it be poolside breakfasts or beach lunches, or sushi on board a private yacht moored at the island.
The journey to Thuwal takes 40 minutes by private boat transfer from Kaust North Marina in Jeddah. Up to 12 adults and three children can be accommodated, and guests’ experiences can be customized.
The 185 m² master beach villa has three bedrooms, a full kitchen and spacious living areas, next to 395 m² of outdoor space with a sun deck and pool. Three individual 103 m² one-bedroom beach pavilions with private outdoor terraces are also available, with indoor–outdoor flow and private showers and bathtubs.
The over-water diwaniya features an open kitchen, spacious living and dining areas, and a large outdoor terrace.
Island manager Sara Al Marghalani brings the spirit of hafawah alive with her team, who meet guests’ needs while maintaining a respectful distance. Beach football and volleyball are available. All stays are full-board.
There are also two treatment beds, a whirlpool and a sauna, and guests can enjoy massages and treatments. A gym overlooks the water and personal trainers are available.
