The 1980s corporate power woman is back—that’s H&M Studio’s spring–summer 2025 collection’s direction, with shoulder pads and sporty details, inspired by the Miami and Los Angeles style.
The looks focus on the waistline, be they tailored trousers or dresses. The concession to 2025 is that the looks attempt to merge tailoring and leisurewear, with leather, cotton-blend bouclé, a knitted Ottoman ribbed fabric and a bouclé-style denim among the key fabrics. Colours have corporate grey, black, and white, though scarlet red and water blue break free of the monochrome palette. Accessories include an oversized, water-repellent clutch, metal-frame sunglasses, and angular shoes.
H&M Studio designer Linda Wikell said, ‘For spring–summer ’25, we looked to the power woman and imagined her whole day—not just corporate life—because her strength and sense of style goes beyond the nine to five. She needs it all: tailoring, statement dresses, shirting, easy separates and denim. But in a way that brings together gravitas and glamour.’
Is it on trend? Very possibly, especially with the uncertain times for the occident, and we might just need to project power with corporate America running the White House. In some ways, Wikell is spot on with the Zeitgeist. The ’80s were when a lot of the world first heard of one Donald J. Trump …
There are ’80s touches everywhere, even through the pops of colour in a startling one-piece swimsuit. Mixing eras, we spot halter necks and high collars, and a metallic plant print—in a way these convey the same powerful impressions as the power suit and squared-toe shoes.
The fight is far from over, whether you’re in Europe guarding democracy or in the US working to reclaim women’s rights, and H&M wants to be there to dress you for it. The range is on sale now.
