The news pace slows at the Festival de Cannes as the AmFAR gala draws near, then the biggest film festival in the world draws to a close. And it was the turn of the custom Chanel looks.

While Andie MacDowell celebrated her 40th anniversary with L’Oréal Paris, daughter Margaret Qualley appeared as a Chanel ambassador. As lead actress in Honey Don’t!, Qualley walked the red carpet in custom Chanel, and despite the bow, it’s based on a look from the haute couture spring–summer 1990 collection. The silk crêpe and chiffon bustier dress is in powder pink, and features a black bow and powder pink camellia. Two hundred hours were used to make the dress. She also wore the brand’s gold slider ring and Bouton de Camelia earrings, both in 18 ct yellow gold and diamonds.

Lyna Khoudri wore Chanel at the première of 13 jours, 13 nuits, in which she stars. The sleeveless coat, embroidered and adorned with a braid revealing a petticoated dress in white, black and green ennobled lace with white silk tulle silk pleats is look 32 from Chanel’s haute couture autumn–winter 2022–3 collection. This was another complex outfit to make, requiring 2,740 hours and 420,000 embroidery elements.

It was custom Chanel for Elle Fanning, too, the lead in Sound of Falling, at the closing ceremony, wearing a pale blue silk crêpe and silk tulle long dress embellised with embroidered braids, a black velvet belt and jewelled buttons, which took 400 hours and c. 4,400 embroidery elements to make.

Lena Urzendowsky of the German film In die Sonne schauen (Sound of Calling) wore a Chanel jacket in iridescent ecru tweed embellished with jewelled buttons and a flounced ruff collar in embroidered silk chiffon with matching shorts, look 12 from the autumn–winter 2025–6 prêt-à-porter collection. She also wore the Comète necklace, Plume de Chanel ring, Curved Feather ring and Comète Couture earrings, all in white gold and diamonds.

Chanel also clothed two key actresses in the Palme d’Or-winning film this year. Two Iranian actresses from Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident, Hadis Pakbaten and Mariam Afshari, wore a Chanel black sequinned tweed jacket and black wool pants, and a Chanel white silk satin shirt with matching pants respectively. The film deals with state abuse, including torture and imprisonment, and its effects on people.
