Doing a big announcement when the world’s press already happens to be there is a pretty smart move, and H&M has done just that—revealing at the AmFAR gala at the Festival de Cannes this year that its next designer collaboration, launching November 7, is with Giambattista Valli.
Helping Valli and H&M’s creative adviser Ann-Sofie Johansson make the announcement at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes were celebrities dressed in a limited-edition, pre-drop collection from Giambattista Valli × H&M: Kendall Jenner, Li Yuchun (李宇春), Chiara Ferragni, H. E. R., Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, and Ross Lynch.
The pre-drop collection, a series of gowns, becomes available in 12 selected stores on May 25. ‘I love dressing women for the red carpet, whether it’s real or imagined,’ said Valli.
‘I am excited about this collaboration: H&M gives me the opportunity to bring my vision of style and my celebration of beauty to a wider audience. The goal is to share my love for beauty and to be able to be part of everyone’s “happy moments”, to help create love stories all around the world.’
The collection is meant to be a summary of his style without a narrative, says the designer, although there is ‘a sense of fluidity’ between womenswear and menswear. The range spans jackets, dresses, coats, cargo pants, sweatshirts, and accessories. It is his first foray into menswear.
‘We are thrilled to collaborate with Giambattista Valli. He is the undisputed master of haute couture with a knack for the memorable silhouette. To be able to bring his signature styles to our customers is a dream come true. We can’t wait to see their reactions to this beautiful collection,’ said Johansson.

It’s been a long time since Brad Pitt was present at the Cannes Film Festival—he was still one half of Brangelina last time—so his return for the première of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood got plenty of attention.
Pitt stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the Quentin Tarantino-written and directed film set in 1969, around the time of the murders committed by the Manson Family.
The film also stars Margot Robbie, Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant, Dakota Fanning, Margaret Qualley, Al Pacino, and, in his final role, the late Luke Perry.
Present at the photo call (video below) were Pitt, DiCaprio, Tarantino, Robbie, and producers David Heyman and Shannon McIntosh.
Tarantino displays his penchant for revisionist history as he did in Inglorious Basterds, and the film’s set designs, fashion and cinematography celebrate late-’60s Hollywood. The leads’ characters are neighbours to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate in the film.
Pitt, a member of Breitling’s Cinema Squad, sported the brand’s Premier B01 Chronograph 42. Breitling CEO Georges Kern was present at the Cannes première and the Sony Pictures’ after-party, which Breitling partnered, at the J. W. Marriott Hotel in Cannes.

Celebrities attending the dinner included Cindy Bruna, Elsa Hosk, Victoria Silvstedt, former Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere, Nadine Leopold, Coco Rocha, Praya Lundberg, Natasha Poly, Leomie Anderson, and Magali Aravena.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has walked the red carpet for the second time at the Festival de Cannes this year, attending the première of La belle époque, wearing a white tulle gown by Ashi Studio, with diamonds by Avakian.
The Bollywood actress chose earrings from Avakian’s Caché Collection set with black diamonds and crowned with four white diamond marquises. She complemented these with a black diamond ring from the same collection, set with black diamond pavé diamonds, on the outside as well as the inside of the ring, and crowned with a gorgeous marquise diamond in the centre.
Cindy Bruna chose to wear Balmain on the red carpet for the première, choosing jewellery by de Grisogono. Her necklace was a unique piece, in white gold, set with brilliant-cut rubies (37·4 ct), baguette-cut diamonds (12·8 ct), 1,255 brilliant-cut diamonds (c. 30·6 ct) and a pear-cut diamond (3·03 ct). Other items from de Grisogono were a high-jewellery ring in pink gold set with a red oval-cut spinel (13·42 ct), marquise-cut white diamonds (5·96 ct), white diamonds (0·24 ct) and spinels (9·89 ct), and a ring in white gold and pink gold set with navette-cut rubies (8·55 ct), rubies (0·44 ct) and white diamonds (14·28 ct).
In the official Cannes video at the bottom of the post, catch the red carpet for La belle époque with director Nicolas Bedos, and Marion Cotillard, Jean Dujardin, Daniel Auteuil, Fanny Ardant, Guillaume Canet, Doria Tillier, Michael Cohen and Denis Podalydes. The film will be released in France on November 6.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan showed once again why her Cannes Film Festival appearances are so anticipated: wearing a beautiful custom-designed Jean-Louis Sabaji Couture gown in gold, with jewellery by Boucheron.
The Bollywood actress and former Miss World walked the red carpet for Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life, which is in competition at Cannes. Representing the film were August Diehl and Valerie Pachner. On the same evening, French screen legend Alain Delon was awarded an honorary Palme d’Or, and walked the red carpet at the same time.
Elsa Hosk wore a custom Etro mint and pink chiffon gown with a train, and jewellery by de Grisogono (unique haute joaillerie earrings in pink gold set with white diamonds, brown diamonds and rubies, and a unique haute joaillerie bracelet in pink gold set with white diamonds). Elsa Zylberstein, also going with de Grisogono for her jewellery (Boule earrings and Chiocciolina ring), chose a gown by Zuhair Murad.
Giving Rai Bachchan competition in the gown stakes was model Petra Němcová: her gown showed that eco-fashion can be red carpet-ready. Cristina Ottaviano created the gown using certified organic silk—unlike traditional silk, it was derived from mulberry trees. Němcová chose Verrah shoes that looked like satin silk but were made from recycled plastic bottles, while her Rossoyuki clutch, made in Mumbai, used cruelty-free fabrics, micro-glass beads, recycled wood frames, and hand-made brass. Jewellery was by Chopard.

Screening out of competition was the Claude Lelouche film, Les plus belles années d’une vie, with the director present on the red carpet alongside actors Anouk Aimée, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Marianne Denicourt, Souad Amidou, Antoine Sire, and Monica Bellucci, and screenwriter Valérie Perrin.
Elsa Zylberstein wore Azzedine Alaïa with jewellery by de Grisogono on the red carpet. Argentine model Camila Morrone chose a Miu Miu sequin dress that enhanced her stature.
Priyanka Chopra, meanwhile, went with a Georges Hobeika gown from his spring 2020 bridal collection as she showed up with her husband Nick Jonas. Not everyone understood the reference, but it was one that she shared with Jonas, who later posted on Instagram: it commemorated their meeting a year ago, seeing the movie Beauty and the Beast.
Bellucci, meanwhile, chose Dior for her gown, complemented by a necklace from Cartier.
