In brief: James Wines’s Erotica collection; limited-edition Joséphine bag; Bogner Fire & Ice for spring ’21

Filed by Lucire staff/February 14, 2021/11.40

Designer, artist and photographer Paula Sweet, whose work has regularly appeared in our pages, has announced a collection based around the work of SITE (Sculpture in the Environment) founder and principal, architect James Wines. Wines, 88, has created two drawings for the Erotica collection, comprising T-shirts, tops, leggings, pillows, stationery, cups and shower curtains. More at paulasweet.com.

Ludovica Mascheroni has shown Joséphine, a limited-edition pillow bag commemorating International Women’s Day next month. The bag is dedicated to Joséphine de Beauharnais, a patron of the arts, who brought an ancient Persian paisley pattern into vogue in Europe during the 19th century. She was reputed to be the first woman in Europe with an entire wardrobe in the paisley print. The 2021 interpretation on Mascheroni’s pillow bag is hand-made in 100 per cent cashmere, with leather and brass details, and retails for €729.

Bogner’s spring–summer 2021 Cold Hawaii campaign sees its Fire & Ice designs modelled by professional surfers Mor, Vahine, Robert and AJ in northern Denmark, in what the company calls ‘every adventurer’s dream’. There’s solitude, a rough climate and enviable waves, and the designs are equipped to take on those increasingly long days in the season ahead.

Katharina Mazepa, Shannon McMullen, Kelsie Jean Smeby model Guess’s spring ’21 accessories

Filed by Lucire staff/February 8, 2021/10.03

The Guess accessories’ campaign for spring 2021 has been shot by Yasmine Kateb, and features models Shannon McMullen, Kelsie Jean Smeby, and Katharina Mazepa, the former beauty queen and Instagram personality.
Mazepa says becoming a Guess model has fulfilled a long-held ambition, ‘making my childhood dream come true.’
She says that the brand’s co-founder and chief creative officer Paul Marciano was responsible for discovering her.
Rob Sargsyan did the make-up, Esther Vásquez the hair, and Yosh Yañez the styling.
The women follow in the footsteps of Anna Nicole Smith, Claudia Schiffer and Laetitia Casta, among the models who put the brand on the map.
Marciano, the youngest of the four brothers who started the label, had been caught up among allegations of sexual assault for some time. Most prominently, in 2015, Kate Upton and four others made allegations, later settled for a total of US$500,000. Marciano announced his resignation as a Guess board member and chief creative officer from Guess in mid-2018, but the company reversed its position in January 2019. Allegations have continued to surface, most recently in the California courts, where the attorney representing the latest accuser noted that they knew of seven other women who have gone on the record against Marciano.

Nomos Glashütte shows classic timepieces for Valentine’s Day

Filed by Lucire staff/February 4, 2021/10.57

Nomos Glashütte, the largest manufacturer of mechanical watches in Germany, has a Valentine’s Day collection, spanning a variety of models, both self-winding and automatic, offered as single watches or in pairs. The reverse sides of the watches are big enough for a personal message to be engraved.
Nomos also develops its own movements, and a great deal of the watches’ components are handmade. Only when the most demanding of precision is required—say a thousandth of a millimetre—does the company opt for machinery.
The duo Nomos Glashütte has in mind is the Minimatik and Minimatik Champagne, powered by an ultra-thin automatic calibre. Individual watches include the Orio 33 in rose, the Orion 38 (top), and the classic Tangente, all of which have the brand’s quality stainless steel assembly. Finally, there is the Nomos sundial ring. Forget conformity: Specsavers releases Deus Ex Machina eyewear collection

Filed by Lucire staff/February 3, 2021/21.13

Deus Ex Machina has collaborated with Specsavers on a new eyewear collection, now at stores across New Zealand.
The new collection comprises twelve optical and six sunglass styles. It’s those fine Deus Ex Machina details that mark them out: asymmetric pins on the frame, which recall biker jacket buttons, as well as the Deus logo on the temples. Our picks include the Deus Sun RX 4, a classic pilot style with a double bridge, the Deus Sun RX 5, an aviator style, and the Deus 7, with an angular frame for those who find ovals and quadrangles too everyday.
Juan Carlos Camargo, Specsavers’ head of frames, says, ‘We’re thrilled to add another stylish brand to our expanding designer portfolio and even more excited that this is an Australian-born brand. The Deus brand continues to achieve success on the global stage, and we are proud to be able to offer glasses wearers high-quality stylish products with the expert care, fit and Specsavers quality and value.’
Prices range from NZ$299 to NZ$459 for two pairs, single vision.

We don’t often hear of regional spokeswomen for some of the global brands, but we happened upon German actress Gizem Emre’s announcement that she is a L’Oréal Paris ambassador, a brand that she says has been with her since childhood. In her campaign, she appears in the ‘Worth It Club’, alongside Lena Lademann, Caroline Daur and Lou Beyer, and together they want to ‘show how important it is to inspire, motivate and support other women.’
Emre, 25, plays Dana in the long-running police drama Alarm für Cobra 11: die Autobahnpolizei.
Meanwhile, it pays to have friends with followers: Shekinah delos Santos’s bikini brand, Bikinis by Shek, was able to call on Miss Universe New Zealand 2016 Tania Dawson to help model one of her designs, and promote it on Instagram (@tpdgurl). Delos Santos’s bikinis are made by hand, and are sustainable—find out more at shek.com.au.
The pair met through the Miss Universe New Zealand pageant and have a shared Pinoy heritage.
In a similar vein, singer Hilde Osland, currently 28 weeks pregnant, continues to model on her Instagram to her 3·7 million followers, with Lounge Intimates being the lucky party with its Willow design, in time for Valentine’s Day. The company promises ‘huge surprises’ with the annual event on its Instagram, @loungeintimates.

Simone Rocha is H&M’s next designer collaboration

Filed by Lucire staff/January 14, 2021/15.28

H&M

London-based Irish designer Simone Rocha is the next collaborator with H&M, with a collection launching March 11, comprising clothing for women, men and children—the first time Rocha has completed a collection for the entire family. Each category includes a full wardrobe. Also under the Simone Rocha × H&M banner are jewellery and pearl-embellished footwear.
As with previous designers, the collection makes references to previous work, especially Rocha’s mixed heritage of Hong Kong and Ireland, but with new twists.
H&M says in a release, ‘We see glimmers of Tudor courtiers, wild florals, portraits and photographs, dolls and trinkets. There is tartan, beading, florals, pinks, reds, and bespoke fabrications, developed in-house, exclusively for this collaboration.’
The launch date coincides with Rocha’s 10th anniversary.
‘I am so thrilled to be working with H&M on this very special collection,’ she says. ‘It truly is a celebration of the signatures of my brand, and the influences that have shaped me. As a designer, and as a customer, I’ve been such a fan of the H&M collaboration concept. Margiela, Alber Elbaz, Comme des Garçons—it’s such an amazing list of alumni to be a part of.’
Rocha says she is pleased that she can offer her designs to a wider audience, and for those who may have missed a piece the first time.
Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative adviser for Hennes & Mauritz, adds, ‘Simone Rocha has been on the H&M wish list for some time. This collaboration offers a new audience the chance to own a very special piece of design history. All of us at H&M have been so inspired to work with a female designer who spends so much time thinking about contemporary femininity, and womanhood, and who is so committed to excellence in craft and design, from the process of developing special fabrications, to pushing silhouettes, shapes and embellishments. Every garment within this collection is unique, special and the result of years of work and meticulous research.’
Daisy Edgar-Jones, Adwon and Jesewa Aboah, Robbie Spencer, and Tess McMillan appear in the campaign.
