‘You always hope to find a designer so original
and creative, it will knock you over,’ said Anita Wypych post-show,
creative director for Minimidimaxi, an online magazine–portal for
the Canadian fashion industry. ‘Denis Gagnon is such a designer.’
She was impressed with both the show and the collection, both seamless
in concept and execution. ‘You can see a Belgian influence and an
ingenious use of deconstruction. He’s so original.’
Andy Thê Anh for his own POW (Presence of
Woman) label also won an enthusiastic response for his collection.
The award-winning Vietnam-born designer began his design career
in 1989. His was a confident and sensual collection grouped around
a Silk Road theme. Three distinct themes, in vibrant spicy hues,
were inspired by the Middle East, India and China. There was elegance,
invention, but still a bit of restraint. Many would like to see
this designer push the envelope a bit more and show some more daring
takes.
