It is not an overstatement to
say that all these collections are sure to be sold-out best sellers
come fall
For the presentation of their fall 2004 Escada
Sport, Escada Collection and the débuting Escada Kids’ Wear
lines, Mr Ley closed the store at 715 Fifth Avenue (and 57th Street in mid-town Manhattan) was closed for one day to their regular
(and faithful) customers. The entire line—from shoes and bags to
gowns and coats—from the fall lines then were displayed throughout
all three levels of the store.
Creative Director Brian Rennie and his design
team have designed what I would call a money collection.
Creatively, Mr Rennie and company are at the top of their game.
This entire presentation, from start to finish, was a tribute
to the memory of the founder and a solid effort in staying relevant
in a time when so many other design houses are finding it difficult
to reinvent themselves. This is often represented by an effort to
appeal to a younger customer base while losing the already-established,
older customer base at the foundation of the company. Mr Rennie
has successfully bridged the gap between the two groups and
it is not an overstatement to say that all these various collections
are sure to be sold-out best sellers come fall.
The Escada Sport line is all about ‘active elegance
and sporty luxury.’ It combines the most luxurious fabrics with
functional details in a mix that is somewhat retro-sporty and casually
elegant for the young woman (or the older woman who’s young at heart)
who’s serious about having a good time. There’s something here for
everyone. The collection includes wonderfully comfortable circular
skirts with floral prints, beautiful Capri pants, twin sets and
trench coats inspired by Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday,
a wide range of cashmere, shearling and leather pilot jackets and
coats in warm, autumn in New York colours (rust, gold, orange and
cognac), and pieces that expertly mixed paisley with patchwork and
lambskin with cashmere and velvet.
