Antonio Miró
We did say most. Antonio Miró stuck with black and
greys (and greens and grey–browns), but for good reason. The Barcelona
designer has always had an innovative, intellectual streak and black
served as a base colour to unite high-tech and classic fabrics,
such as wools complementing elasticized plastic. Stylistically,
he combined traditional suits for men with inflatable jackets to
give the impression of air-quilting.
Miró based his other designs around the
square. Hence, there was square embroidery, while shoulder lines
were exaggerated and angular.
For women, the square was replaced with the wearer’s
natural curves. While tweeds and silks appeared, Miró stuck
with blacks, enhancing the brooding-intellectual take of his label.

Totón Comella introduced her collection to the press with
a letter to Grace, Nicole Kidman’s character in Dogville.
It is a retro collection, helped by the props on the stage recalling
the movie’s 1930s Rockies’ setting. Design-wise, the collection
did not have many 21st-century touches: instead, Comella retained
a natural feel, using furs and wools, and white and off-white shades.
Her underwear was still 1930s-inspired, though rather more sexy—and
one demonstration that this winter isn’t exactly winter. Toward
the end, Comella introduced more modern touches, including red and
gold zip-front jackets.
Some models sat on the furniture, which re-created
the movie’s minimalist, theatrical feel, while others walked the
runway.
Kidman was not the only Hollywood connection.
Mónica Cruz, sister of Penélope and a member of the
UPA dance group, was among those on
the catwalk.
