first came across Roanne Jacobson's Saben range in 2001. Jacobson
(below right), an Australian living in Auckland, New Zealand,
had accessorized numerous designers with her bags, a trend that
continued at the 2002 collection last month.
The
Saben collection was eye-catching because of Jacobson's attention
to quality and designs that blended structure with style. When it
comes to bags, these terms are perhaps overused, but what weand
subsequently Wallpaper, who with portal FashioNZ visited
Jacobson immediately after ussaw were amongst the best quality
bags in the world. Jacobson eyed overseas marketsand this
year, she may have found her entry.
American stylist Rebecca Weinberg fell in love
with Jacobson's summer 2003 work, which she showed at an off-site
exhibition. Although journalists found it tough to get there between
shows, Weinberg evidently did, buying both the Kit and a limited-edition
Buckets.
