a self-confessed city girl, a formally trained make-up artist
who’s equally happy doing her own make-up, drives a Suzuki
SUV—and just happens to be Miss World New Zealand 2003–4.
Wellington-born Amber Peebles, who moved
away from the capital as a child and is now Auckland-based,
took the title at the national competition in August. With
a voice that could be equated to an antipodean Lauren Bacall,
one cannot make a mistake the minute she begins speaking:
she’s no stereotypical beauty queen who’s all about world
peace.
