two lip-synchers called Milli Vanilli were on target for a Grammy.
With pessimism and the effects of the 1987 crash really
being felt through all economic strata, fashion's excess was dying out.
So in that atmosphere, one can easily imagine how impactful a giant-sized
billboard of Elle Macpherson in lingerie was.
The added cachet of the original campaign was its "made
here" aspect.
