Fernández has found inspiration from different
parts of her life. Born in northern Spain in 1961, later studying
at the Escuela de Artes Técnicas de la Moda in Barcelona,
she moved to Paris to take up an internship with Guy Laroche. Prior
to starting her own label, she was a frontline designer for Sonia
Rykiel.
She then consulted with leading manufacturers
Stateside, deciding that she should specialize in swimwear. The
Aurora Fernández label débuted in 1996 and, according
to her company, word quickly got round about a distinctive style
centred around beauty, simplicity and elegance. Therefore, her designs
tend to date less. As the images in this special feature show, Fernández
uses natural tones that enhance another timeless element: the female
figure.
'Timelessness' and 'elegance' can come in many
forms, executed differently from designer to designer. What should
mark out any creator is the presence of a signature style. So is
there an Aurora Fernández signature style?
