THIS MONTH’S Lucire features Brooklyn Decker, best known for appearing in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition. Decker was highly recommended by Jon Moe, one of Lucire’s long-time print edition contributors, not only for her earlier SI appearances, but for her rising profile: she may soon grace television screens, having finished shooting a pilot with Leslie Nielsen for 2007 release, in which she plays a villain and principal love interest.

Kettering, Ohio-born Decker was discovered in a shopping mall in Charlotte, NC, and made her SI Swimsuit Edition début in the 2006 issue. Raised in Charlotte, she is a huge supporter of her home state, a fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Carolina Panthers.

The bios that record her as being born in Middletown, Ohio are from Decker’s childhood: her family was, indeed, there, for less than a year during her childhood, and her grandparents currently reside there.

The other story making the rounds on the internet, that she was named after a horse called Brook, is true. Brooklyn is a longer version of Brook—and neither parent, at the time, had been to New York. Her parents both work in the medical field—her father working with pacemakers, and her mother is a nurse—and are reportedly totally supportive of her fast-rising modelling career.

Now based in New York, Moe reached out to Decker and convinced her to appear in Lucire’s issue 21. On this page are images that do not appear in that issue—you’ll have to get the print edition to see the others in our large-format, 235 by 335 mm pages.

Other magazines in which Decker has appeared include Teen Vogue, FHM, Glamour and Cosmopolitan, and in campaigns for the Gap, Victoria’s Secret and J. C. Penney. She has also spent part of her modelling career in Australia. •
